What is this horrible abomination?
Well, it's my attempt at drawing my pony OC in a mixture between cartoon style and realism, as
inspired me to.
I know I failed rather horribly, but this was my first attempt at drawing without a proper reference for the anatomy, since my router died and I was stuck without internet for the time being and had to piece it together with just the few anatomical references I had at hand.
The head looks kinda off, the outlines are to thick, my lines are still rather wobbly and the shading looks painfully wrong in places and the mane and tail look not less painfully flat.
There is still much room for improvement. I plan on drawing more images over time again, so I hope I'll improve noticeable in the future. Only time will tell.
So, WHO is this horrible abomination?
This is my pony OC "Sententiosus Sparkmane" or just "Sparkmane" since I still try to find a more fitting first name for him. He is an earth pony, based on a shire horse, which probably explains what I intended to look like fluff. He is an inventor, well, that's at least the background I run with in the past. He doesn't really have much of a backstory yet, I tried to create a small family around him like a sister or a son but mostly it didn't fit very well, so I'm still experimenting with his backstory a lot. The only companion he has right now is a small mechanical crab with various tools implemented inside it's legs and with pliers and scissor for pincers. (which is redundant information because the crab isn't depicted here anyways.)
The lightning bolts from his mane and tail are kind of a visual gag because of his name "Sparkmane", which mainly means he is bubbling over (or sparks) with ideas. So, no, the lightning bolts are not canon for this character. I thought I shouldn't include them anyways but couldn't resist, so I still did it. But they aren't included in the final OC reference.
